To apply for the M.Ed. in Higher Education Administration online program, you will need:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Transcripts from all previously attended institutions
  • Minimum 2.5 GPA for all undergraduate coursework
  • Professional resume
  • Three professional/academic letters of recommendation (which should include faculty and/or higher education professionals)
  • Statement of purpose (one to two pages that address your career goals in higher education and one issue in higher education you hope to address as a professional)

International Applicants must meet all standard admissions requirements as well as the following:

  • English Proficiency Requirement (can be unofficial copies). Official transcripts are required before enrollment. Some countries eligible for waiver. Completion of a bachelor's degree in the US will satisfy English proficiency requirement.
  • Transcripts: All foreign transcripts (universities outside of the U.S.) must be evaluated by a NACES Evaluation Agency. An official course-by-course evaluation must be included
  • Passport: A copy of the student’s passport must be provided.
  • Program is not eligible for issuance of I-20's.

An overview of the issues, theories and practices associated with effective college student development. Topics examined include various developmental and college impact theories of change and the unique characteristics and development of diverse groups of college students. This course examines current issues in American higher education and provides an overview of the current status of higher education in terms of individual and institutional trends. It focuses on recent developments in theory, research, policy and practice related to prominent contemporary issues; facilitates the critical analysis of such issues; and provides a forum in which the most recent issues can be synthesized in a manner that promotes a greater understanding of the dynamic interactions between research (methods and theory) and application (policy and practice).

This course requires students to use different analytical and critical approaches for understanding the complex manner in which American postsecondary education, primarily colleges and universities, are organized, governed, administered, and led. The purposes of the course involve providing an overview or organization including the forms, structures, roles, and functions of higher education and leadership theory including leadership roles, management principles and practices. Topics examined include classic organization theory, traditional administrative and governance models, campus climate and culture, leadership theory and analysis, management principles, institutional change and assessment, race and gender, and governance.

Advanced and in-depth study of the classic, contemporary, and emerging issues, ideas, concepts, theories and research that serve to define and expand the boundaries of the literatures related to the areas of teaching, learning and curriculum in higher and postsecondary education. Research and theory in these areas will be studied in ways that emphasize scholarly writing as well as concrete applications to the development of effective policy and practice in each area.

An examination of the contemporary undergraduate college student in America. The topics of this course follow a logical progression from the choice of a college or university, a student's decision to remain or depart a given college or university, and the effects that college attendance has on students. This course will present a theoretical and practical literature regarding issues associated with today's college student. The course also focuses on ways in which the attributes of the "typical" college student have changed and how the proliferation of non-traditional students on college campuses has presented new challenges for administrators, student affairs professionals, and faculty.
